Palletization: From Loose Cartons to One Stable Load One load. Twelve cartons. Imagine twelve cartons arriving loose at a loading dock. Palletization means stacking them on a pallet and securing them so they can travel as one handling unit. That makes handling and counting easier, and helps reduce shifting and damage. Build a stable stack Start with an undamaged pallet rated for the load and the way it will be handled. Place heavier cartons low, distribute weight evenly, and keep the cartons inside the pallet edges. Follow each carton's stacking limit so the bottom layer can support the load. Connect the load to the base Apply stretch film to contain the cartons and anchor the load to the pallet. Use a wrap pattern and tension suited to the goods. Keep the fork openings clear. Reinforce where needed Some loads also need straps, corner protectors, or both. Protect vulnerable carton edges, and use enough tension to secure the load without crushing it. A machine or an irregular item may need a different securing method. Move one handling unit Before a trained operator moves the pallet, check that it is stable and that the fork openings are accessible. Record the carton count, gross weight, and outside dimensions of the finished unit, including the pallet. Choose the pallet for the job Solid wood is common for general freight. Check the capacity of the actual pallet. A plywood pallet can save weight. Ask what the deck, feet, and runners are made from. Plastic resists moisture and is easy to clean. Compare the purchase cost with the number of trips you expect. Check every wooden component For international shipments, check the importing country's wood packaging rules. Where ISPM 15 applies, regulated solid wood needs an approved treatment and the official mark. Heat treatment is one option. Pallets made entirely from qualifying processed wood are generally exempt. Solid wood runners under a plywood deck can still be regulated. An all-plastic pallet is outside this wood packaging standard. Before the truck arrives Ask the carrier and receiver about accepted pallet sizes, loaded height, weight, and stacking rules. Choose the base, secure the cargo, and share the finished measurements before booking. Find the full palletization checklist at FromChinaHub.com.
